A hunter accused of shooting a moose from a highway was recently convicted of the offence.
The incident occurred last September near the golf club just west of Grand Falls-Windsor.
Joseph Blackmore of Grand Falls-Windsor was handed a $1,000 fine. He’s also prohibited from hunting for the next five years, and had to forfeit his firearm and moose to the Crown.
The Department of Forestry says it is an offence to discharge a firearm from, or across a highway, road or railway.
It is also an offence to discharge a firearm within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or sports field, or within 300 metres of a home or a dwelling.
