The leader of the NDP and former president of the NLTA is concerned about the potential impact of proposed changes to school busing schedules.
Government is planning to implement the changes in the 2027-2028 school year.
It would mean some schools could see changes of up to a full hour from their present pick-up times.
Jim Dinn says he could see the issue coming when the 1.6 km busing rule was eliminated.
“And now I guess they’re in the process of ‘well, we’ve got to try to figure out how to pay for it’…this is something that should have been done before making the promise.”
Liberal education critic Paul Pike meanwhile echoes that sentiment. He says the public has to wonder how thoroughly the plan was thought through, and he’s urging government to take the public feedback it receives seriously.
