Education minister Paul Dinn is looking ahead to next year’s budget to address numerous concerns impacting the child care sector.
Earlier this year the provincial government set up a steering committee to look at things like increased wages, pensions, and paid sick days for early childhood educators.
Last week, government issued an expression of interest for a child care advisory panel to help guide the development of the sector.
As well, Dinn says there are a number of advocacy groups that they are keeping in the loop.
Dinn says government is “covering all bases,” and giving people venues to voice their concerns with the goal of making a submission to the budget in the fall that “answers or at least prioritizes some of their main issues.”
He says they need to get the information and sit down with each of the groups and figure out how to move forward. He hopes to have something in the next budget to address some of the issues.
