RNC are seeking the public’s help in locating a motorcycle that fled from them in Portugal Cove-St. Philips over the supper hour on Thursday.
Police were alerted after a motorcycle near Healey’s Pond raised the suspicion of local residents.
Officers noticed a man driving a motorcycle on Thorburn Road near Bennett’s Road without a helmet.
The motorcycle sped away heading east toward the Outer Ring Road and turned onto Allandale Road. Police did not engage in a pursuit.
A few minutes later officers noticed the same bike on the westbound ramp from Allandale Road to the Outer Ring Road.
As they were trying to stop the machine, the driver hopped off and ran onto a trail. A police dog followed the scent but the driver was not found.
The abandoned motorcycle – a red Yamaha with license place number MDS882 – was seized.
Officers are now seeking any witnesses or possible video footage of the incident. The driver was wearing a black shirt, light coloured pants, and beige boots.
