A special unit of the RCMP recently formed to address crime in eastern Newfoundland has helped apprehend repeat offenders including a couple of situations over the past few days.
The Crime Reduction Unit East helped Trinity-Conception with the arrest of a suspect wanted on several outstanding breaches of a peace bond and criminal harassment charges in relation to an ongoing investigation into intimate partner violence.
Then on Friday, the team travelled to Placentia-Whitbourne district to help in the arrest of a suspect wanted in relation to multiple counts of failing to comply with their court-ordered conditions regarding property-related offences.
Officers with the special unit are also investigating allegations of sexual assault in Trinity-Conception. No charges have been laid.
Included in the unit’s mandate are matters involving repeat and prolific offenders and organized groups involved in drugs, weapons and property crimes.
