The executive director of the United Way Newfoundland and Labrador says while not a medical emergency line, 211 can connect people with medical personnel if required.
Provided by the United Way, the service has been present in Canada for 24 years, but it wasn’t introduced in this province until 2020.
It is a referral service that connects people to a variety of community, social, and government supports – including things like food banks.
While 211 isn’t an emergency line, Lisa Fifield says they can do “warm transfers” – things like 911, and the mental health crisis line.
