A project to help reduce the reliance on diesel generators for power in Nain has moved through the required environmental hurdles.
A limited partnership between the Nunatsiavut Government and Natural Forces is proposing to develop a wind power micro-grid about 2 km west of the town’s center.
The project will include one or two wind turbines to generate approximately 1.78 to 2.3 MW of power.
The department of environment says the conditions of release have been met including requirements for a Women’s Employment Plan, an Environmental Management and Protection Plan and an Environmental Effects Monitoring Plan.
