Memorial University says it’s cutting its Frecker Program due to a lack of host families in recent years.
The three-month French immersion program was offered to MUN students to study in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon through Le Francoforum.
In a statement to VOCM News, MUN says it could send only 10 students to the program last fall, and just a dozen last spring because of the shortages.
When asked on Friday, Premier Tony Wakeham said the university needs to “reinvent itself” to stay sustainable.
MUN, on the other hand, says it will continue to offer other programs that send students to France to learn abroad.
