Enrollment at Memorial University has dropped, but the institution says it’s encouraged by small growth in various sectors.
New-student enrollment rose 7.5 percent in fall 2026 compared to 2025, but fewer students returned to continue their courses, leaving totals down nearly two per cent.
MUN says 82 per cent of its students are from Newfoundland and Labrador this fall, while Canadian students make up nearly seven per cent and international students 10 percent.
Memorial Vice-President Academic Jennifer Lokash says changes to the federal immigration program mean Memorial will need a long-term, coordinated strategy.
In the meantime, the university plans to focus its recruitment efforts on Newfoundland and Labrador.
