The man accused in a series of fires in the metro region over the summer targeting cell phone infrastructure will undergo a 30 day psychiatric assessment.
Thirty-year-old Patrick Greer appeared distressed when he attended court virtually this morning from HMP.
He addressed the court crying “I don’t know why I did what I did, but I’m sorry.”
Greer is accused of setting fires that caused significant damage to cell phone sites at a number of locations on three separate occasions in July.
Greer’s lawyer is arguing that his client was suffering from a mental disorder so as to be exempt from criminal responsibility at the time of the offence(s) under Section 672.11 (b) of the Criminal Code.
Greer will undergo a 30 day psychiatric assessment at the mental health and addictions centre. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 13th at 11:00 a.m.
