The city of Mount Pearl is working on a permanent solution to repair a problem at the pumphouse on Farrell Drive.
A valve in the water main broke during the final commissioning process involved in bringing the city’s new water tower online.
Mayor Dave Aker says the problem caused the city to ask residents north of Topsail Road to conserve water.
The break “caused a bit of flooding…that doesn’t work very well with electrical, let alone computer equipment, so we had to shut things down.” He says there’s plenty of water in the tank, but with the pumps not working, they decided to ask people not to waste water.
A temporary solution has been found in the meantime, and the mayor expects a permanent fix to be completed within the next day or so. In the meantime, the conservation order remains in place.
