The majority of Albertans have voted to reject a referendum on separation from Canada.
The final tally has yet to be completed, however an overwhelming majority voted to stay with Canada rather than entertain another vote on separating.
In a statement issued by Prime Minister Mark Carney, he says above all, Albertans chose Canada and touted the economic benefits to come from Ottawa’s plans to fast-track new projects – with Alberta being a key player.
The PM goes on to say that now is the time to make a better country for all Canadians.
While the big question was surrounding the desire to vote on separation, Albertans were also asked to vote on nine other questions regarding immigration and constitutional powers.
