Both sides involved in a labour dispute at the Corner Brook Civic Centre say they are waiting for the other party to come back to the table.
Talks between the city and CUPE local 4386 broke down yesterday after the union walked away from the table.
The city says its latest offer would bring workers at the centre in line with other municipalities, but the union contends that is not true. CUPE says the offer from the employer is basically unchanged.
Mayor Linda Chaisson says they are taking the situation “day-by-day.”
She says “if they (CUPE) want to come back to the table, then (the city) will open up negotiations again.”
CUPE NL President Sherry Hillier says they are waiting for the city to “come back and do some bargaining.”
She says the union lowered its offer in hopes they could find some common ground, but the city isn’t giving them what they want. “We’ll just wait until the employer wants to come back with a fair offer.”
