A heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for the island starting this Thursday but the exact impact remains to be seen.
The eastern portion of the island is expected to take the brunt of the mess. Precipitation will likely start late tomorrow afternoon and continue through to Saturday.
Most of central and western Newfoundland will only see a few showers.
Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says the strongest winds and rain are expected through Friday and into parts of Saturday, but exactly how much rain will fall is still unknown.

“The rain that is expected Thursday night into Friday is probably going to be some of the more intense rain from this, but certainly going to be precipitation around the region and lingering Friday night and into Saturday as well,” he told VOCM News.
“It’s still a few days away, so we’ll be working on the details of exactly when that’s going to wrap up, as well as how much we’re looking at in terms of total amounts at this point. There’s still some uncertainty involved.”
He says wind could reach as high as 100 km/h in some areas.
