House Speaker Paul Lane started the fall session of the House of Assembly by issuing visual reminders to members of the importance of respect and decorum and the importance of working in a harassment-free environment.
The last sitting of the House of Assembly was a particularly raucous one, with concerns raised on all sides of the legislature.
Things took a particularly ugly turn last May with a tense shouting match between Liberal Elvis Loveless and Minister Lloyd Parrott outside the chamber.
Speaker Paul Lane today highlighted pamphlets his office has had printed for distribution among all elected members.
“I had our staff create these and have them here for all members to reflect on from time to time,” he told MHA’s.
“On the front of it says, this house is guided on the principal of respect. Respect for ourselves. Respect for our colleagues. Respect for staff. Respect for the institution and respect for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
