There’s a lot of talk about floating dry docks of late, but the CEO of the Port of Argentia believes there’s plenty of opportunities to go around.
The port has signed an MOU for the development of a floating dry dock and marine repair facility in Argentia, while the provincial government last week issued an RFP for the development of a floating dry dock at the Bull Arm Fabrication site.
Port of Argentia CEO Scott Penney dismisses the suggestion that the two facilities will be in direct competition.
“There is no dry dock wars” says Penney, “this is an opportunity to expand on the industry that’s in the province, and the demand nationally is quite high and the supply is extremely low.” He says they previously informed government of their plans. “It’s an opportunity for us to partner with a company (Mammoet) that we know very, very well.”
