The budget calls for about $142-B in new spending, and a little more in new revenue, pretty much offsetting each other. The deficit is forecast to be $62-B.
The budget contained $50-B to double the electricity grid. One of the keys of that will be the hydro deal between Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador as featured on the cover of the budget document.
Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says Canada is in a position to transform the economy towards stronger growth and stronger productivity.
He says the plan will help Canadians get ahead.
“We need the mines, we need the transmission, lines, the electricity damns, the factories to power our future but first and foremost we need Canadian workers and Canadian companies building them and we need to build faster,” says the minister.
