A coalition of unions at Memorial University is requesting an “urgent” meeting with the premier ahead of next week’s budget announcement.
The group, which represents some 20,000 students, faculty, and workers at MUN, has written the premier urging him to live up to commitments he made during the election.
They say a decade of “underfunding” has left the university facing “real consequences,” including job losses, program cuts, increased class sizes, and deferred infrastructure maintenance.
They argue that Tony Wakeham identified those exact issues and promised to do things differently, noting that the budget is the best time to make good on those commitments.
