There’s a symposium this weekend for newcomers to the country to talk about getting involved in creative arts, and overcoming barriers and challenges associated with doing so.
“Pathways to Leadership” is a program of the Association for New Canadians focused on connecting newcomers and racialized youth.
It consists of a youth advisory group which has been meeting twice a month and sharing lived experiences on barriers and challenges in creative arts. That information is used to try to establish some workable solutions.
Ben Chapman-Smith, the project lead for Newcomer Youth at the ANC, says mentorship is a great way for people to learn the ropes and gain from the experience and knowledge of others. He says it may be easily possible to get some mentors but in some cases may not be.
It’s a free event Saturday afternoon to share information with professionals working in the arts, culture, and immigration sectors.
