Both the ministers of emergency preparedness and finance say progress is being made in recommendations contained in the latest report from the Auditor General.
Earlier this week the AG took aim at the previous administration, saying they were ill-prepared for emergency situations, and “weak” on fraud.
The AG found that only nine percent of municipalities have emergency plans in place. Minister Pleaman Forsey acknowledges that some people may be worried upon hearing that news.
He says they will make sure emergency plans are put in place.
On the findings on fraud, Finance Minister Craig Pardy says they have updated and strengthened their fraud management policy, established government-wide expectations for fraud prevention, instituted mandatory training, enhanced oversight and reporting mechanisms, and strengthened audit resources.
Pardy says government wants to work towards eliminating fraud altogether.
He believes the work already done will “greatly diminish” instances of fraud.
