Two restaurant franchises owned by a Newfoundland MP have suddenly closed their doors.
Both Smitty’s locations – in Mount Pearl and Churchill Square – closed this week, with little-to-no warning.
Both online pages associated with the two local Smitty’s locations are down, showing a notification indicating that the page “took a coffee break.”
The franchises are owned by Central Newfoundland MP Clifford Small who reportedly owes more than $350,000 in rent and taxes.
The city of Mount Pearl has filed a lawsuit in court claiming back taxes owed on the Smitty’s property on Gibson Drive.
VOCM News has reached out to owner Clifford Small for comment.
