The province says more help is on the way for insured and uninsured residents of the Conception Bay North Shore who lost their homes in last year’s wildfires.
The provincial government has been subsidizing housing for dozens of displaced residents.
The chair of the Cabinet Committee on Conception Bay North Response and Recovery, Craig Pardy, says they are finalizing the new measures, with more information expected in the coming weeks.

“So within the three-week period, we will have some options for the people that were uninsured.”
Pardy says in many cases, homeowners were denied coverage.
Among the reasons for denial of coverage were issues with the home’s foundation, or the fact that wood was used as a heat source. “If they never had the foundation as what the insurance standards would be, they wouldn’t look at them. And several of them have tried many insurers…to no avail.”
