The Trinity Town Council recently made the unusual decision of having a fellow councillor vacate her seat.
A special meeting was held on July 20th, where a motion was passed to have Amanda Mitchell step down.
The decision was made under the Municipal Conduct Act following a formal complaint regarding a conflict of interest.
The town says the councillor in question held “one or more private interest(s)” that were affected by a motion made before council at the beginning of the year, and that she “failed to comply” with requirements of the Municipal Conduct Act during a public council meeting held on January 12th.
Council decided to have Mitchell vacate her seat and that she not be eligible to be nominated as a candidate until the next general municipal election.
