The Single Parent Association is still seeking donations of school supplies to help meet unusually high demand.
Executive Director Danielle Seward says she’s never seen demand as high as it is this year.
“It’s reaching record-breaking levels to be quite honest,” says Seward. “We’re doing what we can to keep up.”
She says they’ve already been able to help 900 children, “which in a normal year would be the highest we normally do, but this year is a little different.”
She says this year has seen “exceptional demand” and they’re in the process of collecting last-minute donations for distribution. Going in their favour this year is the fact that the school year is starting relatively late.
“We’ve got an extra week to work with and we’re in the process right now of collecting as many last-minute donations as we can, just to make sure that we’re sending all the kids to school with the tools they need.”
