The weather in the spring and summer this year was challenging for farmers – you wouldn’t say it from the crops that have been harvested at Lester’s Farm Market though.
Co-owner Chris Lester’s describes this year as a “real head scratcher,” saying it was “a challenge right from the start.”
In spite of that, he says some of his crops are doing really well.

“It’s probably our best year we’ve ever had on potatoes. Pumpkins were late ripening but a very good year on those as well,” he said.
Lester states that there is a “sea of orange” at their site. There are currently between 12,000 and 14,000 pumpkins on display, and the harvest is still ongoing.
He says pumpkin “rules the world” this time of year. He tells a story that “the other day we were coming down the road with a big load of pumpkins on the trailer and blew out a tire. I was like ‘too many pumpkins!’ It’s just how things are these days.”
