This is Right to Know Week, a time to promote the rights of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians under access to information legislation.
The Privacy Commissioner’s Office says while access to information rights have been weakened in some jurisdictions, the legislation in this province remains “one of the strongest in the country.”
Earlier this year, government began a statutory review of ATIPP legislation.
Privacy Commissioner Kerry Hatfield says this province has become a “leader” in access to information because citizens have demanded transparency in. and accountability from, public bodies.
She is encouraging people to “make their voices heard” in the review.
