A French artist has opened a display to bridge the art gap between Newfoundland and Labrador and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
Marie-José Mahé, along with other French artists, set up a display at the Jumping Bean on Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s, highlighting similarities and differences in art between the two regions.
She says many of the pieces highlight life on the small French island of 6 thousand.
“The idea was to try to create ties and cooperation between Newfoundland and Labrador and Saint-Pierre, to learn from each other, to cooperate with each other and try to facilitate the link between Saint-Pierre and Newfoundland,” she told VOCM News.
“We’re so close and it’s two different cultures, two different ways of doing things, even in the arts. The art world in Saint-Pierre, whether it’s music or theatre, is very lively in Saint-Pierre.”
