Premier Tony Wakeham plans to meet with Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette in the coming days, as both provinces signal that they’re willing to reach a new agreement on Churchills Falls expansion.
Fréchette took to social media this week indicating that collaboration between the two provinces is essential.
Premier Wakeham says he’s hoping to have a face-to-face meeting with Fréchette and Prime Minister Mark Carney in hopes of addressing some of the issues and recommendations made by the review panel.
“Both the Premier of Quebec and I are interested in getting back and negotiating a better deal for Newfoundland and Labrador. I’m sure she wants a better deal for the province of Quebec,” he told reporters.
“The federal government has expressed an interest in being part of this process, so it will be interesting as we start our negotiations as to what role they expect to play and how they could be involved in working in and supporting this deal. So that’s what we’re looking for.”
