Premier Tony Wakeham delivered a speech to the Mount Pearl-Paradise Chamber of Commerce, focusing on long-term projects and economic sustainability for the province.
Wakeham started by saying his focus is not on mega projects, but then followed up by highlighting Bay du Nord and Churchill Falls projects.
He lambasted the Liberals for their deal with Hydro-Québec on hydro development in Labrador, calling it “flawed,” and said their “sales pitch” on the previous deal is “all wrong.”
Premier Wakeham also took the opportunity to denounce those who said the province should walk away from the deal, saying “they are not builders,” before stating the agreement will bring jobs and economic opportunity.
He further downplayed opposition to his updated agreement with Quebec, saying he chooses to be a “builder.”
He finished his speech by proclaiming “the deal will sell itself” for both Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Wakeham says he will work with the Quebec government on finalizing the definitive agreements in the months to come.
