The RNC is reminding hunters about the importance of ensuring their firearms are properly stored following an incident on the west coast this week.
Police in Corner Brook were contacted yesterday about a firearm found in full view on an ATV parked on a public trail near the Trans Canada Highway.
The owner was eventually identified as a 41-year-old from Massey Drive.
The firearm was seized and he was charged with careless storage.
RNC is asking hunters to make safety a priority by:
- Inspecting equipment and firearms before heading out.
- Ensuring firearms are unloaded when not in use and during transportation.
- Do not leave firearms unattended.
- Avoid high-traffic areas.
- Wear bright, high-visible clothing.
- Follow all hunting regulations including proper licensing, tags, permits, and zones.
- Carry reliable communication in the event of an emergency.
- Let someone know where you’re going and your time of expected return.
