A third team has dropped out of the U-18 AAA Hockey League, reducing the league from five teams to just two.
The Western Kings recently announced they, too, are pausing for the 2026-27 season, following the departure of the Central Impact and the Tri-Pen Osprey.
In a video update posted to social media, league vice-president Darren Halloran says they’re working on a plan to finish out the remainder of the season with a two-team system.
“We are working tirelessly to produce a plan…going forward. We have put together great minds, great hockey minds, great businesspeople and we’ve been working very hard to execute a new plan going forward and to hopefully resurrect this league in the next year,” he said in a post to Facebook.
The league has put out an RFP to create a team from members of the three teams that recently dropped out.
The winner of the league will play in the Atlantic Championship, which is being hosted by the St. John’s-based Nissan Growlers.
