The MHA for Burgeo-Lapoile says the court in Port aux Basques remains closed with no word on when proceedings will be able to resume.
Court was adjourned in Port aux Basques and Baie Verte back in November for an indefinite period, along with civil hearings, traffic hearings and Contraventions Act cases in St. John’s, Grand Falls-Windsor and Stephenville.
Michael King says he’s hearing from constituents who have encountered significant issues having to travel to Stephenville, yet the justice minister has indicated that it’s up to the court system to figure out.
King, who presented a petition in the House of Assembly on the matter, told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan that he believes the minister has a greater role to play.
“I think the minister needs to take a more hands-ion role here…to get those courts open, to get those services available to the people of the province so they can access them in a timely manner.”
